Underfloor
Heating Pipes Installed for a Structural Slab
This
method is most suitable for commercial premises where the building
will be kept at a constant temperature. We no longer use this
method for domestic properties because people tend to use a
number of programmable heating times throughout the day when
their system is on or setback. Speaking from experience the
thickness of the slab makes the underfloor heating response
time sluggish on the coldest mornings, which is just the time
when you need it most. For commercial properties where the heat
will be maintained at a constant temperature, a heated structural
slab might be the better option. The response time of a slab
plus screed or beam and block floor construction is much
better, because of the reduced thermal mass, and as a result,
is more fuel efficient.
The
underfloor heating pipes are fitted to the mesh, which lies
flat on the surface of the insulation. Once installation is
complete, the mesh is suspended on blocks so that the pipes
sit just over half way up the slab depth, which is normally
around 150mm.
