Underfloor
Heating Below Hardwood on Slab Plus Screed/Beam & Block
Diagram
Depending
on the requirements of the hardwood, it may be necessary to
fit battens to provide a fixing for wood flooring. This diagram
shows how this can be done, by laying a framework of battens
onto the insulation, after the underfloor heating pipes have
been installed. The spaces between the battens must be infilled
with a concrete mix to provide the thermal conductivity to the
floor surface. A floor sensor can also be fitted into the screed
to limit the floor temperature and protect the wood flooring,
which is particularly useful for natural hardwood, but perhaps
not necessary for engineered hardwood depending on the manufacturer's
instructions.
