The
builder had done the required preparation work by marking out
the position of the room partitions with a single course of
bricks and by laying the insulation. The builder had also marked
out the position of things like bathroom and kitchen fittings
as well as the staircases, prior to laying the underfloor heating
pipes.
Rigid
high-density insulation boards are laid onto a concrete slab
sub-base, which provides the stability and structural strength
of the floor. The pipes are then fixed to the insulation using
rails and staples or clips. In this picture, you can see where
the room partitions will be because the builder has installed
a course of bricks. This takes the guesswork out of the process
later when the concrete screed has been poured and the joiners
move in, because the brick course will still be visible showing
where the partitions will go. Underfloor heating pipes pass
to each zone through the doorways. This project is on one floor,
and has three manifolds serving the different areas.
